Bio-Rhythms:
Ever since his first rave experience at 15 in San Francisco's Haze Theater, Sean Rojas (a.k.a. Sean Infinitee) has been moved by the music, the vibe, and the emotional journey a DJ can take you on. Inspired early on by the sounds of artists like Kraftwerk, Afrika Bambaata, Grand Master Flash, and Herbie Hancock during the break-dance revolution, Sean has held a deep appreciation for electronic music since his early youth.
After becoming a regular at parties within the San Francisco rave scene, Sean became more and more interested in what was going on behind the decks. Influenced heavily by the sounds of local San Francisco legends Jeno, DJ Dan, Garth, Carlos and Dutch, Sean and three of his best friends put their funds together and got a pair of decks and mixer. Fueled by his passion for the music, he took advantage of any opportunity to spin-getting his feet wet at local house parties within the SF Bay Area from early 1993 through early 1995-playing everything from House, to Breaks, and early Techno. Honing his skills and expanding his horizons, Sean’s DJ influences began to branch outward towards the East Coast where heavy hitters like Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez, Josh Wink, and Little Louie Vega reined supreme. After 2 years of bedroom DJing and playing house parties, Sean was ready for prime time. In February of 1995, he made his official debut when he and his three friends threw their first party called “Ravers in Wonderland” playing along side the very same artists who inspired him in the very beginning.
After graduating high school in 1995, Sean’s pursuit to become a DJ was put on hiatus, and he moved to the East Coast to pursue a career opportunity in Television. However, this hiatus would be short lived, as shortly after leaving everything behind, he would stumble upon a local record shop called “Café Soundz” in Montclair, NJ, and found himself right back in the mix. Working his way into the local scene in NJ, he would eventually end up making a close friend out of shop owner Bobby Lisi, and began working part time managing the store. Working primarily for records, he collected predominantly hard house and breakbeat, only to find locals wanting a harder edged sound. Adapting his style to cater to the local flavor, he began pushing Acid Trance, Goa Trance, and Hard Techno. However, after playing local parties and events from 1996-1998, he found himself getting tired of the hard edged “4 on the floor” sound, and began to gravitate back to his true passion-breakbeat.
Fast forwarding almost 10 years, Sean eventually found his niche playing Nu-Skool breakbeat, and achieved his career defining moment when he won the Breaks FM International DJ Competition and played along side the likes of; Jay Cunning, Atomic Hooligan, The Autobots, The Lawgiverz, Phil Hartnoll, and more at the “Esparrago Rock Festival” in Spain in July, 2003. After proving his worth on the decks, he was offered a spot on the renowned internet radio station, and became the first U.S. breaks DJ to host a weekly show on Breaks FM. Since then, his show called "Thee Tilt! Sessions" has become known as one of Breaks FM's premier shows, with past live guests including The Autobots, NAPT, The Carbon Community, Fine Cut Bodies, Influenza, High Eight, Cause ‘N FX, Kraddy, and more. Catch him live on Breaks FM every Tuesday night, 8pm-10pm EST. Not only working hard at rinsin' it on the internet airwaves, Sean has played an integral part at building the breakbeat scene within New York City and continues to push the breakbeat sound in the Northeast. Rocking venues in Washington DC, Rochester NY, Portland Maine, and Philadelphia, Sean continues to be in-demand in the Northeast. He was a resident at his event “Unbreakable” on Thursday nights at the award winning Sullivan Room in NYC since December, 2004, and now does a monthly event on Saturdays as a resident at Scenic, NYC called “Redline.” Keep your eyes peeled for more on both the event production and studio production tip from Sean in '08!
